Writing Department  

The Writing Department at Dysonna On Stage offers exciting opportunities for:

  • Creative Writing Students and Graduates

  • Novelists

  • Poets

  • Screenwriters

  • Book and Magazine Publishers

Our classes aim to give writing students and professionals the skills, knowledge, hands-on experience and motivation they need to pursue their individual goals.  Topics covered include: 

  • Expressive Poetry

  • Magazine Publishing

  • Writing the Winning Script

 

We also work with our students to put on special events throughout the year, including:

  • Spoken Word

  • Dramas

  • Writing Competitions


    The Art of Storytelling

    Learn storytelling technique through lecture in this 4-session course. If your child has a deeper desire to write, this class is for them. Experience writing beyond a book report. 

    If you have an imagination, we can help you develop your talent.

    Lecture on history of writing, the different styles/genre to be covered in class, writing tools, how to get started on their own book and what inspired them to write.

    Monday, December 1        430pm—6pm

    Circle reading-students take turns reading what they wrote. Lecture and writing on genre. Continue writing their own book.

    Monday, December  9        4.30pm—6pm

    Review and discussion and complete final draft. Lecture on framework. Students work on their experience in composing homework assignment, continue to work on framework.

    Monday, December  16       430pm—6pm

    Guess speaker Q&A. Circle reading summing up their stories.

    Monday, December 23         430pm—6pm

     

    Writing a story for your own book

    Learn the techniques and mechanics used for writing a story for your own book and comic book.

    Learn the mechanics of publishing your own book after writing your story

    Learn how to publish your own book and actually take home your book.

    Children must be in the 6th grade or older to attend classes.

You can help spread the word about writing classes and events at Dysonna On Stage by distributing flyers to your friends, colleagues and co-workers.  Just download the flyers from the below links, print out several copies (double-sided), cut, and distribute by mail or in person.  (If you cannot view the flyers, you may need to download Adobe Reader.)  You can also pick up professionally printed flyers from our front desk during any event or class.

Keep an eye out for the on the web site, to find opportunities specifically for writing students and professionals.  Writing classes are usually offered on Monday and Sunday in either a morning or afternoon session.  Writing events are usually held on Monday evenings.
